This is a copy of Bernie Sanders now out-of-print 1997 autobiography, which describes in detail how he went from being the progressive, socialist mayor of Burlington, Vermont who transformed his little college town into one of the most desirable places to live in in America. He was reelected by landslides numerous times before becoming Vermont's beloved Independent State Representative. After the publication of this book in 1997, he's went on to become Vermont's beloved United States Senator garnering upwards of the 70 percent of his state's vote. Conservatives in the state love him because he fights to help them keep their farms. Many were known in 2004 to have both a George W. Bush sign and a Bernie Sanders sign in their yards, proof that the socialist tag is nothing more than a scare tactic used by the corporate media (literally – General Electric owns NBC (and MSNBC, Viacom owns CBS, Disney and Mickey Mouse own ABC, and everyone's favorite, Rupert Murdoch, owns one and only fair and balanced news station in the country: Fox News) to keep the American people from voting for progressive candidates that actually give a shit about the well-being of the common, working class (or dare I say, occasionally homeless) people in America, with nearly a quarter of the U.S. population living below the poverty line. Bernie is now the front-runner for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, leading the polls in both New Hampshire and Iowa, and nipping at Hillary's "I guess, why not, who else do we have?" passionate base more everyday. Can't wait for those debates, if Debbie Wasserman Schultz, head of the DNC and former national campaign co-chair for Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign. But don't worry guys, she's not trying to rig the New York primary or anything by not holding a debate in Hillary's formerly represented Senatorial district or anything before the registration deadline or anything. We're all positive that her motives are pure. So rest assured. Anyway, enjoy this story of one honest man who stuck to his beliefs for more than 40-years now, and might actually give the youth of this country a shot at not living the rest of our lives in student loan debt. Here's to you, Mr. Sanders. To support Bernie, and Verso Books, the awesome left-wing publisher who first printed this work in 1997. It's since gone out of print and is selling for ridiculous amounts on Amazon and eBayMore than $2,000 new was the highest I've seen. To leave aside the sick fact that people are exploiting the market for their own gain, and using Bernie's book here, which is highly sought after now due to his recent surge and call for a political revolution... nevermind, I won't leave it aside. That's the exact kind of behavior that's gotten us into this mess, with Wall Street greed raping the pockets of the already poor and destitute for no other reason than to buy themselves another yacht/ocean-liner with a golf course on top of it. I said fuck that. The library had this for free. And now you do too. But be sure to throw some change at the updated edition, "Outsider in the White House," which is coming out Oct. 27 with a new foreward by the man himself, and a sweet afterward by the other man himself, author of "The 'S' Word" and longtime writer for the Nation, John Nichols. You can pre-order it here: http://www.versobooks.com/books/2060-outsider-in-the-white-house Let's set fire to the bookshelves come late October, helping out man top the list, and proving, once and for all, that pirates don't do a damn thing to stifle sales. Much the opposite. Particularly of an out of print book. Who wouldn't want the new and updated copy? I sure as well will be buying a dozen of them, and handing them out to the homeless. Christmas goodwill? Covered. In the meantime, enjoy this roadmap to progressive change, from small college town to most powerful nation the world has ever known. Do what you can to emulate it in your own community. As Sanders says, not a damn thing is going to change in this country without a massive wave of grassroots political action demanding that Washington either get their shit together and start helping the 99 percent, or that's one fuckload of disenfranchised, angry young men you've got on your hands with nothing to lose. I sincerely think this election is our last chance at holding on to the inkling of democracy we've got left in modern America's plutocratic nightmare police state. Integrity and authenticity, while those who refuse to compromise those values may get the shit kicked out of them for a while, the citizens brave enough to not compromise them, no matter what, even with a massive amount of potential SuperPAC money sitting on the table like Satan in the desert, the Martin Luther King's, the Ghandhi's, the FDR's, the Eugene V. Debs' and, last but not least, the Bernie Sanders' of this world will always triumph in the end, even if it's long after they're dead and gone, their ideas championing equality and brotherhood will not be. As Taibbi said, "Give 'em hell, Bernie." You've got the heart Neil Young was singing about. And the balls to put it to some good use. Signed, Your brother in Internet arms, Anonymous –
